Biographical Notes: Charles Albert ("Big Chief") Bender was born in Brainerd, Minnesota on May 5, 1883. A member of the Philadelphia Athletics, baseball world's champions, he appeared in The Baseball Bug, a Thanhouser film released on November 24, 1911. Also appearing from the same team were Jack Coombs, Rube Oldring, and Cy Morgan. Bender died on May 22, 1954.
