Volume III: Biographies
Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Claude Seixas was an actor and assistant director for Thanhouser in 1913 and 1914.
Biographical Notes: For many years Claude Seixas was a vaudeville actor who specialized in playing Italian characters. Appearing in such roles on stage at Loew's Theatre in New Rochelle, he was impressed with the reception given by the audience to films shown between vaudeville acts. He was introduced to Carl Gregory, head cameraman for Thanhouser, who hired him shortly thereafter. He was named as assistant director to Carl Gregory in the Princess Department in the autumn of 1913. During the summer of 1913 Seixas was a lifeguard at Hudson Park in New Rochelle. On December 21, 1913 he married Mazie Caroline McNulta. A detailed account of their romance and wedding was carried belatedly in the New Rochelle Evening Standard, August 7, 1914. In early 1914 Seixas announced his intention to accompany Gregory to the Bahamas to film underwater scenes, but the arrangement did not materialize. Seixas subsequently left Thanhouser to go back into vaudeville.
