MEADE, Charles *

Actor (1914-1915)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Charles A. Meade was an actor with Thanhouser during the 1914-1915 period.

Biographical Notes: A native of Rutland, Vermont, Charles A. Meade came to New York in 1898. He was in show business for many years and was associated with numerous stage companies as well as film producers. Known for his dancing ability, Meade was among the Thanhouser actors furnishing entertainment for a benefit stage performance held in New Rochelle at the Masonic Lodge on May 6, 1914. In addition, he was occasionally seen in dancing roles on the vaudeville stage. In Thanhouser films he played minor roles.

Years later, he was associated with Howard Hughes in the production of Hell's Angels. At one time Meade operated six movie theatres in Canada. From the late 1930s until his death he was a manager for theatres owned by RKO in the New York area. Meade died at the age of 73, on September 14, 1949 at French Hospital, New York City, following a heart attack sustained at the 81st Street RKO Theatre on Broadway, where he was manager. He was survived by his wife, Jessie Meade, who lived with him at 56 West 65th Street.

Note: His surname was sometimes spelled "Mead" in publicity.
