Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Christy Mathewson, a pitcher for the New York Giants baseball team, appeared in the Thanhouser-Princess film, The Final Game, which depicted highlights from the last game of the 1913 World Series, played in New York City on October 11, 1913.
Biographical Notes: Christopher ("Christy") Mathewson was born on August 12, 1878 in Factoryville, Pennsylvania. His nicknames included "Big Six" and "Matty." He spent 17 years as a player and three years as a manager in major league baseball, nearly all with the New York Giants, with whom he became a legendary pitcher. He participated in four World Series contests, 1905, 1911, 1912, and 1913. Standing over 6'1" tall, he weighed 195 pounds. In the final game of the 1913 World Series, filmed by Thanhouser, he pitched all nine innings and gave up six hits and three runs. Christy Mathewson died on October 7, 1925 at Saranac Lake, New York. His younger brother Henry played with the Giants in 1906 and 1907.
