CAMPBELL, Emma *

Actress (1916-1917)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Emma Campbell was an actress with Thanhouser circa 1916-1917, according to the 1917 and 1918 editions of the Motion Picture News Studio Directory.

Biographical Notes: Born in 1871, Emma Campbell followed a stage career beginning at an early age, and by the time she entered films she had spent 20 years treading the boards, including work in London. In America, she was mainly associated with traveling stock companies and was a familiar figure before the footlights, especially in the East on the Orpheum, Poli, and other circuits.

Her film career included playing character parts for Vitagraph, Rex, and Thanhouser. Her work for Thanhouser must have been brief and unpublicized. A 1916 listing in the Motion Picture News Studio Directory noted that she was 5'7" tall, weighed 163 pounds, and had gray hair and gray eyes. Her favorite pastime was dancing. At the time she was at liberty and was represented by the Amalgamated Photoplay Service, 220 West 42nd Street, New York City. The 1917 and 1918 editions of the same directory noted that at the time Emma Campbell was with Thanhouser in New Rochelle.
