Thanhouser Career Synopsis: John Beck was an actor with Thanhouser in 1916.
Biographical Notes:John Beck was born in Plano, Illinois and was educated at the Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska. His stage career included roles in The Virginian, The Law and the Man (with Wilton Lackaye), The Fortune Hunter, and The Argyle Case, with stock companies in Omaha, Indianapolis, Yonkers (New York), and elsewhere.
Beck's screen career included Reliance, Pathé, Thanhouser, Nestor, Famous (The Fatal Card), Fine Arts (Betty of Greystone), and Triangle (Betty the Joyous). For Thanhouser he appeared in the 1916 Falstaff release of Where Wives Win. The 1916 edition of the Motion Picture News Studio Directory noted that he was 5'11" tall, weighed 160 pounds, and had green eyes and light brown hair. His hobby was the "study of make-up." The actor's mailing address at the time was given as the Friars Club, New York City. John Beck died a later year at the Percy Williams Home for Retired Actors in East Islip, New York.
Note: According to the New Rochelle city directories, a person named John Becker (sic) lived at 5 Boulevard, Rochelle Park, in 1915 and 1916, the same address used by Nicholas S. Woods, the Thanhouser actor.
