Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Myra Brooke was an actress with Thanhouser for a short time, according to listings in the 1917 and 1918 editions of the Motion Picture Studio Directory.
Biographical Notes: Myra Brooke was born in 1865 and followed a stage career with Richard Mansfield, Frohman, and the Shuberts, in whose companies she was seen in such productions as Magda and Lysistrata. Her screen career included roles with Gaumont, Kalem, Edison, Metro (The Lifted Veil), Thanhouser, Reliance, Briggs Comedies, Mr and Mrs. Sidney Drew comedies, and Empire All-Star (A Daughter of Maryland). Among her favorite roles were those in blackface. While she was in films, she also worked on the stage, and in 1916 was seen at the Little Theatre in Winthrop Ames' production of Hush.
A 1918 directory noted that Miss Brooke was 5'4" tall, of medium complexion, and had brown hair and blue eyes. Her agent was Kirmmse, at 105 West 40th Street, New York City. Myra Brooke died in Amityville, Long Island, New York, on February 9, 1944.
Note: Her surname was often spelled as "Brooks" in press notices.
