MURPHY, Eddie *

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Eddie Murphy, a player with the Philadelphia Athletics baseball team, appeared in the Thanhouser-Princess film, The Final Game, which depicted highlights from the last game of the 1913 World Series, played in New York City on October 11, 1913.

Biographical Notes: John Edward Murphy, known in baseball as "Honest Eddie," was born on October 2, 1891 in Hancock, New York. Murphy was a player in major league professional baseball for 11 years and played in three World Series contests, in 1913, 1914, and 1919. He was 5'9" tall and weighed 155 pounds. He played right field in the fifth and final game of the 1913 World Series, was at bat three times, and had two hits and one run. Eddie Murphy died on February 21, 1969 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania.
