(CUMMINGS, Ralph)

Director (1914)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Ralph Cummings may have been a director at the Thanhouser studio in 1914, succeeding James Durkin. Variety, July 10, 1914, reported that James Durkin and his wife, Maude Fealy, had resigned from Thanhouser and that Durkin's place as director would be taken by Ralph Cummings. Actually, Durkin did not leave Thanhouser until December 1914. The activities of Ralph Cummings at Thanhouser have not been verified elsewhere.

Biographical Notes: Variety, October 24, 1933, carried Cummings' obituary: "Ralph Emerson Cummings, actor and manager, died in New York, October 20 [1933]. He began his stage career in San Francisco in 1886 and came east around the early '90s. He was conductor of many stock ventures, but at times went back to the management of others for a season. Best known for his handling of stock in Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto, and Richmond. Interment was in the Actors' Fund plot in Kensico [New York]."
