Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Rube Oldring, a player with the Philadelphia Athletics baseball team, played in a Thanhouser film, The Baseball Bug, in 1911. In 1913, he appeared in the Thanhouser-Princess film, The Final Game.
Biographical Notes: Reuben Henry Oldring, known in baseball as "Rube" Oldring, was born on May 30, 1884 in New York City. He was a player in major league professional baseball for 11 years and participated in three World Series contests, 1911, 1913, and 1914. Standing 5'10" tall, he weighed 186 pounds. He appeared in The Baseball Bug, a Thanhouser film released on November 24, 1911. Also appearing from the same team were Big Chief Bender, Jack Coombs, and Cy Morgan. Two years later he was seen in The Final Game, a Princess film which featured highlights from the fifth and last game of the 1913 World Series, played in New York City on October 11, 1913, during which event he played left field. He was at bat four times and crossed home plate twice, for two of the three runs scored by his winning team. Rube Oldring died on September 9, 1961 in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
