COLLINS, Eddie *

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Eddie Collins, a player with the Philadelphia Athletics baseball team, appeared in the Thanhouser-Princess film, The Final Game, which depicted highlights from the last game of the 1913 World Series, played in New York City on October 11, 1913.

Biographical Notes: Edward Trowbridge Collins, known as "Eddie" and "Cocky" Collins in baseball, was born in Millerton, New York on May 2, 1887. He spent 25 years as a player in major league professional baseball, including service with the Philadelphia Athletics from 1906 to 1914 and again from 1927 to 1930. He participated in six World Series contests, 1910, 1911, 1913, 1914, 1917, and 1919, and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. Standing 5'9" tall, he weighed 175 pounds. In the final game of the 1913 World Series, filmed by Thanhouser, he played second base, was at bat three times, and had one hit. Collins died on March 25, 1951 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Note: The Thanhouser film subject is not to be confused with another Eddie Collins, who was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on January 30, 1884 and was a stage actor during the Thanhouser era and later furnished the inspiration for Dopey in Walt Disney's Snow White film. He died in Arcadia, California at the age of 56.
