Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Emma L. Butler appeared in Thanhouser films in 1913.
Biographical Notes: Emma Lathrop Butler, later known as Emma Lathrop on the stage, was born on March 24, 1845. Her stage debut was made in 1879 with Denman Thompson in Joshua Whitcomb, the predecessor to Thompson's long-running The Old Homestead. Later, she traveled with a Shakespearean company, after which she was in the F.F. Proctor and Henry V. Donnelly stock companies in New York City. Her last stage appearance is believed to have been in The Country Boy in 1910. By 1913 she was in films with Thanhouser, for whom she played minor roles. Her death occurred in Englewood, New Jersey on March 8, 1935, at the age of 89. By that time she was known as Emma Hiles Butler.
