REDDING, Eugene *

Actor (1913-1914)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Eugene Redding appeared in Thanhouser films in 1913 and 1914.

Biographical Notes: Eugene Redding was born as Eugene Ribidoux in Montreal, Canada on May 20, 1870. His college education was obtained at Jesuit College and McGill University, after which he followed a career in chemistry. He became interested in acting and made his debut on the stage in 1898 in William Warrington's production of The Girl from Paris. Later, under the management of the Broadhurst Brothers, he played in Why Smith Left Home. Subsequent appearances included roles in The Friend of the Family, The Lightning Conductor (with Herbert Kelcey and Effie Shannon), Before and After, Foxy Grandpa (a long run in New York City with Joseph Hart and Carrie DeMar), Frederick Thompson's production of Brewster's Millions (1906-1907 season), and, in 1907, with Lew Fields in The Girl Behind the Counter and with Anna Held in The Parisian Model. Eugene Redding was a screen actor with Thanhouser in 1914 and appeared in many films. His death occurred in mid-April 1937 in Montreal. He was survived by his widow, Eleanor Sydney.

Note: Eugene Redding's given name was listed as "Ernest" in some notices.
