SAUM, Clifford P. *

Actor (1914-1915)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Clifford P. Saum was an actor in supporting roles with Thanhouser in 1914. His films were released in 1914 and 1915.

Biographical Notes: Clifford P. Saum was born on December 18, 1882 in Columbus, Ohio. He followed a stage career, spending three years with the Wilbur Opera Company, eight seasons with Anna Held in Mlle. Modiste, Miss Innocence, Bright Eyes, Katydid, The Three Twins, etc., and three years with Ziegfeld's Follies. In December 1912 Saum was with Punch films, a new branch of the Mutual Film Corporation whose first comedy subject was released on December 5, 1912. It was the intention to produce split-reel comedies for release each Thursday, but this idea was short-lived. The May 31, 1913 issue of The Moving Picture World stated that Saum had been signed recently by Reliance, also a division of Mutual. By the autumn of 1916 the actor had worked with Reliance, Biograph, Progress Films, Thanhouser, and Fox. It is believed that he was with Thanhouser for just a few months. In 1916 he was with Fox in New York City. He appeared in numerous later films through the early 1940s, and died on March 5, 1943 in Glendale, California.

Note: His surname was spelled "Saums" in some publicity.
