Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Charles Mather was an actor with Thanhouser in 1914.
Biographical Notes: On April 26, 1916 Charles Mather married former Thanhouser actress Fan Bourke. At the time, Mather was a member of the Frank Wilcox Stock Company at the Little Playhouse, Mount Vernon, New York.
Could one of the following be the Thanhouser player?
1. An individual named Charles Mather graduated from Lake Forest (Illinois) College in 1914 and at the time had an interest in drama. In 1921 he was named to the faculty of the Culver (Indiana) Military Academy, and in 1935 became head of the English Department there. In the 1920s he wrote skits for the Ziegfeld Follies, and in later summers he was seen at the Silver Beach Theatre in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He died at the age of 71, on August 25, 1962, and was survived by two daughters, Mrs. James E. Cocker and Mrs. E.M. Wehner.
2. Another Charles Mather was the manager of the Lytell-Vaughan Company at the Auditorium, in the 1910 production of The Crisis. At another time he was stage manager for Springtime for Henry.
3. In 1933, a Charles Mather was appointed stage manager of The Pursuit of Happiness, at the Avon Theatre in New York City.
