JOY, Ernest C. *

Actor (1913)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Ernest C. Joy was an actor with Thanhouser in 1913.

Biographical Notes: Born in Iowa on January 20, 1878, Ernest C. Joy was educated in Minneapolis high schools and Minnesota University. His stage career included 10 years in stock companies; five years with Liebler & Co. He played with Wilton Lackaye, Margaret Lacklin, and others, and spent one year in London. Memorable stage appearances included roles in Pomander Walk and Deep Purple.

His screen career included playing heavy and character parts for Eclair, Kinemacolor, Thanhouser, Majestic, California Picture Corporation, and Lasky. Films in which he played included Cameo Kirby, The Master Mind, The Goose Girl, Snobs, After Five, The Country Boy, The Voice in the Fog, The Woman, Chimmie Fadden, The Clown, The Sowers, The Clue, Maria Rosa, Temptation, Chimmie Fadden Out West, The Golden Chance, The Heart of Nora Flynn, The Victoria Cross, Public Opinion, The Call of the East, The Silent Partner, Pride of the Clan, Little Miss Freckles, Little Miss Optimist, The Squaw Man's Son, The American Consul, Forbidden Paths, and others.

Directories published 1916-1918 noted that at the time he was with Lasky, he was 6' tall, weighed 190 pounds, and had brown hair and blue eyes. His home address was 4335 Kingswell Avenue, Hollywood, California. His favorite pastimes were horseback riding, swimming, and writing scenarios and short stories. He married screen actress Mabel Van Buren (1878-1947). Ernest C. Joy died on February 12, 1924 in Los Angeles.
