Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Frederick S. Armbrister worked at the Thanhouser studio and in personal business matters outside the studio with Thanhouser photographer Carl Louis Gregory in 1914.
Biographical Notes: Frederick S. Armbrister, a resident of Nassau, Bahamas, visited New Rochelle in the summer of 1914, in connection with Carl Louis Gregory's work in undersea photography with the Williamson brothers. While in New Rochelle he prepared still pictures of undersea views, for use in publicity, and also helped with some of Gregory's personal photography business and worked for a short time at the Thanhouser studio.
The New Rochelle Pioneer, August 29, 1914, carried this item: "Frederick S. Armbrister, Nassau, New Providence, Bahama Islands, is located at Carl Louis Gregory's, 19 Rhodes Street, in charge of Mr. Gregory's photographic business while Carl is directing dramas with his company in the national playground at Yellowstone Park." A note in the same newspaper, October 24, 1914, stated: "Fred Armbrister leaves next Friday for Nassau, Bahama Islands, for the winter."
