Notes: 1. The film Pamela Congreve is a mystery among Thanhouser releases. Contemporary advertisements, for example one in The New York Dramatic Mirror, May 20, 1914, indicate that Pamela Congreve, featuring Maude Fealy, had been released or was ready for release. However, the author has been unable to locate anything concerning it in the various leading trade papers. It is not certain that Pamela Congreve was actually released in 1914. However, in December 1916 Exclusive Features released on a states rights basis a five-reel film titled Pamela's Past, which is the story of a girl named Pamela Congreve, and which featured the same Thanhouser players. It seems evident that this film was made from footage from Thanhouser's Pamela Congreve. See additional note under December 1, 1916. 2. Lucy Payton's surname appeared as "Peyton" in some notices.
BACKGROUND OF THE SCENARIO: Born in New York, Frances Mathews received her education at home. She was a resident of Indianapolis and was a novelist and playwright, producing over three dozen works, including Pamela Congreve.
