Chapter 11 (Epilogue): Thanhouser Films Reissued

Edwin Thanhouser was tiring of the film business, and he looked forward to the expiration of his three-year contract made early in 1915, so that he could move to Long Island and build the home of his dreams. Announcing his decision many months in advance, he gave the Thanhouser Film Corporation directors ample time to search for his replacement. However, revenues were declining, the motion picture business was in a state of change, and it was decided to wind down operations. In late 1917 the last Thanhouser film, The Heart of Ezra Greer, was released, after which time the office was occupied only by Edwin Thanhouser, waiting out the expiration of his contract, and long-time company secretary Jessie Bishop. In early 1918 Edwin Thanhouser packed up and moved away.
